IJS at GovTech 2025: Court Online Project Recognised

The Integrated Justice System (IJS) and the Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) reached a major milestone when the Court Online project was nominated for the prestigious Digital Governance Award at GovTech 2025 in Durban. The nomination recognised the project’s role in modernising justice delivery, digitising case management, and making court processes more transparent and efficient. Standing alongside initiatives such as the Information Regulator’s data programme, the CIPC Beneficial Ownership Register, and eventual category winner SALGA, Court Online’s nomination was a strong endorsement of its national impact.

Court Online directly responds to the justice sector’s challenges by reducing manual paperwork, streamlining communication, and improving coordination between legal practitioners, officials, and the public. This aligns with GovTech’s 2025 theme, “One Data, One Citizen, One Service Delivery Journey.”

Pull Quote: “The nomination confirms that our efforts to digitise justice delivery are on the right track. It is not only an accolade but also proof that our commitment to technology is delivering tangible benefits for citizens.” – Ms. Nengovhela, OCJ Chief Information Officer

The recognition has further energised the IJS and OCJ teams to expand innovation, ensuring that digital justice becomes a cornerstone of accessibility, transparency, and public trust. This achievement, even without a win, reflects South Africa’s growing reputation for leveraging technology to strengthen justice delivery at scale.
