The South African Police Service (SAPS) has successfully rolled out the Integrated Persons Management (IPM) system across four Free State stations namely, Botshabelo, Selosesha, Thaba Nchu, and Boithuso, on 29 September to 3 October 2025.
All station members gathered at Selosesha Police Station for two days of intensive training, which included system navigation, data capturing, verification, and practical demonstrations. The roll-out also introduced change management initiatives, ensuring that members understood the impact and long-term benefits of the new system.
The IPM system is designed to centralise persons-related records, enabling quicker access to accurate information about suspects, detainees, victims, and persons of interest. This is carried out by streamlining data and reducing duplication, the system will enhance investigations, prevent escapes, and strengthen accountability across the service.
The officers using the system daily are optimistic about its potential to improve daily operations, although they also pointed out areas needing support.
Sergeant Nyakallo Lebeko (Boithuso SAPS) highlighted how IPM will improve suspect identification and help address challenges in identifying deceased and missing persons.
Sergeant Boikanyo Molehe (Selosesha SAPS) expressed excitement about the use of rugged devices at roadblocks to trace suspects instantly, though she emphasised the need for stronger network support and extended training.
Constable Portia Mohono (Thaba Nchu SAPS) praised IPM’s ability to simplify suspect identification but requested more hands-on practice.
Sergeant Shadrack Moletsane (Botshabelo SAPS) described IPM as a convenient tool for processing arrests, while noting that network issues remain a concern.
Achievements and Immediate Needs
A Step Towards Smarter Policing
The roll-out marks an important milestone in modernising SAPS operations. By improving data accuracy, reducing manual errors, and strengthening detainee management, IPM is expected to significantly boost service delivery in the Free State province.
As one officer put it:
"IPM is a wonderful method of securing information of the people arrested. It is useful for future investigations, helps curb corruption, and ensures accountability in how detainees are processed.”
