Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA)

The mandate of PSiRA derives from the Private Security Industry Regulation Act 56 of 2001. The Authority regulates the private security industry and exercises effective control over security service providers in the public, national, and industry interest.

PSiRA’s role includes:

  • Promoting a legitimate and professional private security industry.
  • Ensuring providers act in line with the Constitution and applicable laws.
  • Enforcing minimum standards of conduct and training.
  • Promoting accountability, transparency, equity, and accessibility.
  • Encouraging transformation and fair employment practices.
  • Protecting the rights and interests of security officers and employees.

PSiRA aims to build a trusted Private Security Sector Regulator that promotes the safety of all South Africans.
